Live from my house…

Posted in Misc. Crap, Politics, State of the Site by Smith Michaels on September 3rd, 2008

I will be “live blogging” (sort of) the big RNC speeches tonight and tomorrow on my Twitter. Inbetween twits about my cat and about how much I miss my girlfriend.

If you want live snark about the speech tonight (and McCain’s tomorrow) check it out.

Or not.

New blood…

I’d like to be the first to welcome our newest contributor, Doctor Brown.

May (whoever our readership is) enjoy his fresh perspective.

Why would you lie about something dumb like that?

As you all can see, posting from me has been scarce over the last few weeks. I’ve been busy packing, moving, saying good-bye to the girlfriend (whose off to do amazing things in NYC and grad school), and getting the cat settled.

I now have regular internet access again so posting should return to some sort of semblance of normalcy. Or maybe that’ll be another broken promise. There will be plenty to blog about over the next week, the Democratic convention excluded. For example, I have a thing or two to say about the 4th edition version of the Forgotten Realms (initial impression: mixed).

Anyway, I start grad school tomorrow evening and still have some more reading to do before class. So I should sleep.

Oh yeah. Did anybody else hear about this?

UPDATE: This was our 500th post. I probably should have made it a bit sexier.

Two years out…

Posted in State of the Site by Smith Michaels on August 6th, 2008

Today, interestedly (?) enough, marks the second anniversary of our being hosted here on WordPress.

In honor of the occasion I’ve tweaked the About page and stuff related to that.

I’m continuously amazed that we’ve basically be able to keep this blog of ours fresh for the last two years, with more or less, very few interruptions in service.

That would not have been possible without the diligent blogging of my fellow contributors; most especially Psycholarry and Tito. Also known as “the bringers of the hits”.

Hopefully we can keep pulling of this whole blog thing for another year.

In case you missed it… (July 2008)

!!!!

Posted in Brian Wood, Comics, Misc. Crap, State of the Site by Smith Michaels on July 14th, 2008

I believe there are been a couple of posts where the title is “!!!!”.

This is pointlessly navel gazing but it seems that somehow we turned up in a Google search and Brian Wood has linked to my review of his new book.

Which leads me to say “HOLY SHIT”. And also worry about that review. It was written, at speed (the libiary was ten minutes from closing). Hopefully I caught all of the errors I am sure I made.

Brian fucking Wood. Internets, I love you.

Anyway, carry on folks. I do remember than blogging about blogging about how someone cool linked you is a mortal sin. And lame. Carry on!

Not dead yet…

Posted in Reality?, State of the Site by Smith Michaels on July 9th, 2008

Clearly, I'm deep

I believe it is pretty clear, to whatever readership we have left, that I have not been, as they say, “keeping up my end of the bargain”.  Since the middle of last month I have pretty much not posted a single fucking thing.

There are several reasons for this:

  • Since the end of the school year I have not had “regular” access to the internet for long periods of time.
  • I’ve been gone (to the West Coast, my parents, and Charlotte).
  • My laptop pretty much is dead (again).
  • I’ve started writing fiction again and thus most of my creative energy has gone towards that and not blogging (pretentious, i know).
  • I’m well meaning but lazy

I think that pretty much covers it all. I’m going to try and get things back to “normal” here now. I won’t make any promises, per say, but I will, honest to whatever, try (do or do not?) to get shit up here on a regular basis.

To kick things off, I’ve done a couple of things in the backlog. There’s a recap of last month’s best stuff and I’ve updated the Crossing the Line index page to reflect PL’s latest.

And to make it all up to you, I’ve included emo-Potter on this page.

More soon, I sort of, maybe, kind of promise.

In case you missed it… (June 2008)

Posted in In case you missed it... by Smith Michaels on July 9th, 2008

June was a bit of a sparse month for us, namely because I didn’t hold up “my end of the bargain”.

Here’s the best of the best from the last month:

Will you be my Heroes’?

Posted in Conventions, Reality?, State of the Site by Smith Michaels on June 18th, 2008

Tomorrow at noon a large portion of the Blurred Productions staff (myself, Psycholarry, & The Kaiser) are leaving for Heroes’ Con in Charlotte, NC. As you may remember, last year was a huge success for us; so we’re hoping for a repeat.

This year I’m excited about the huge, great guest list and some of the panels. I am especially looking forward to the “Covering Comics” panel on Saturday. I’ll get a chance to meet one of the blogging heroes, Heidi MacDonald.

While I’ll try and get some blogging done at the convention, I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to sit down at a computer. So, because 2/3s of the staff are gone, don’t expect much from us for the next few days. Apologies.

If you’re going to be at Heroes, I hope to see you there!

The beginning and middle of May were very productive for us. Towards the end, I slacked off and PL picked up some of the slack.

Here’s the best of the best from the last month:
